JAMMU, SEPT 30: In an inspiring tale of sheer determination and achievement, Mukta Bain has emerged as a beacon of hope, proving that passion, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose can transform not only individual lives but communities across continents.
Recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women, Bain masterfully balances a thriving career in public health policy with global advocacy as a Senior Delegate at the United Nations.
In an exclusive conversation with IMCSD Herald, Mukta revealed her life experiences and journey.
“My journey began in a rural village in Bangladesh, a place where access to clean water, education, and healthcare was critically limited. At the age of eight, I was adopted by her aunt and brought to the United States in search of opportunity”, Mukta Bain said in an interview.
Today, Mukta leverages her roots—reflecting both South Asian heritage and American aspirations—to advocate fiercely for the rights, education, and empowerment of rural girls. She proudly introduces herself as the founder of “A Voice for a Village-girl’s Education/Public Health Resource,” a platform dedicated to bridging the gap between privilege and underprivilege.
“I always like to help the young girls to achieve their respective goals by installing self confidence in them. Not just my own nation’s girls but across the globe I want to guide the aspiring young girls/women”, she added.
Policy and Public Health Impact
As a health policy analyst at the Maryland Department of Health, Mukta is a critical figure in advancing public wellness. She played a key role in the Young Adult Health Insurance Subsidies Pilot Program, an initiative that has successfully enabled over 64,000 Marylanders to gain essential health coverage, actively working to reduce health disparities by age, race, and ethnicity.
Her commitment to public health deepened during the COVID-19 pandemic, where her advocacy extended through her work with the Maryland Health Care for All! Coalition and the Maryland Public Health Association. Her impact isn’t limited to state-level policy; she has engaged in high-level policy discussions with former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, recognized as a youth voice actively shaping national policy.
Mukta holds a Master’s degree in healthcare administration and is currently pursuing a PhD in public health, grounding her policy work in robust academic excellence.
Global Advocacy and Role Modeling
Beyond her professional roles, Mukta is the founder of A Voice for a Village in Bangladesh, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing critical needs in her home community. This includes ensuring clean water access and promoting education for girls to prevent child marriage. She has twice represented Bangladesh as a Senior Delegate for Youth for Human Rights International at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, raising her voice for pressing global issues.
Her multidimensional persona is evident across her platforms. She seamlessly integrates self-love and fashion modeling with powerful advocacy for village culture and women’s empowerment.
